Why Use Cloth Nappies?

Some reasons why

There are many reasons why more and more modern parents are turning to reusable nappies at the moment,

Environment, Money saving, Reduction of chemicals against babys skin, Household Waste management, Range of cute nappy choices and patterns available!

All totally valid and very true reasons why cloth is a sensible way to nappy your child.

What are the costs?

It's advised that we change our little ones bums 10 -12 times a day from birth slowing to 6-8 in the following months.... But what is the cost of this for both the environment and our pockets?

A birth to potty pack depending on your choice of nappy and age of child could cost you as little as £140. Include washing costs (detergent, electric, water, wear and tear of your washing machine) of around £140 for the whole nappy wearing years and its cost you £280 total. Compare this to anything between £4-£6 per pack of disposables that will last just about under a week with a newborn if you are lucky?

Obviously this relies on you not getting addicted to cloth and having to have more and more gorgeous fluff! But.....

At Babybots we believe you can save over £500 by using reusable nappies (if washed responsibly) Even more by using washable wipes and liners and even more if you continue to use them all on further babies!

Can you afford not to try?

Environmental factors

Environmentally 3000 - 4000 disposable nappies from one baby going in to landfill in just one year! A disposable can take up to 500 years to completely decompose producing methane and toxic chemicals in to our atmosphere. Not to mention the amount of trees that are chopped down to make them in the first place!

To quote Go Real "Real nappies can be up to 40% better for the environment than disposables. This was the finding from the 2008 update to the Environment Agency’s Life Cycle Analysis Report on nappies. Unlike disposables, Real Nappies put parents in control of the impact they have on the environment, with the carbon savings directly related to how you choose to wash your Real Nappies".

Many local councils are trying to address the issue of huge amounts of nappies going to landfill and are taking part in incentive schemes to encourage cloth use. Contact your local council to see what they offer as an incentive. You may be surprised!!
